It’s defensive, focusing on keeping the practitioner safe. It’s not about tournaments or sparring, just mutual prac- tice. You want ever yone’s practice to be better through open contact. I soak up the chance for that immediate physical contact in a safe environment. It’s a profound way to connect. It’s also a chance to roll around on the ground. Adults don’t get to do that very often. —Travis Eneix Dancing 21% of readers do a form of dancing as a movement practice. When I star ted ballroom dancing I had ver y little native ability, but I have good balance and good flexibility, so that helps. For me, dancing is a skill I learned mainly through repetitive practice. In ballroom you get to pay attention to what you’re feeling while also responding to your par tner—mov- ing through space, acting and reacting. A feeling of freedom and enjoyment in dance came to me when I was sufficiently confident in what I was doing. It took a lot of time, but now I can trust my body to do what I need it to do without thinking about it. — Alexandra Caluen 4 5 Running 21% of readers are runners. I try not to let running get too important. I want to fully enjoy it. When I can’t run on a given day, I don’t beat myself up. I’m a several-times-a -week runner, but I’m also a several-times-a -week napper—both great things you can do for body and mind. The hardest par t of running is when your body says no more, and you have to figure out whether it’s real or not.
