Mindful : December 2015
“Royal Flush” Photographer: Mar vin Moore A thousand people could have walked past this and noticed nothing more than some smelly toilets. Why did you stop and take a picture? I’m very fond of a row of port-o - potties. I photograph them in lots of different locations. I‘m always on the lookout for a row of por tos. Is humor a common theme in your photography? There’s a cer tain amount of irony and humor in the world, and I’ve always favored things that are much less heroic and much more elliptical—things that other people would step back and say, “ Why would you take a picture of that?” Did you edit “Royal Flush”? The image is just the star ting point. I tweaked the exposure and I fooled with the color and contrast. The usual things I would have done years ago in a dark room. What’s one thing you would say to rookie photographers? You have to make the effor t to take the picture—it will help you see what’s actually there. What’s your favorite time of day to shoot? Night. Things aren’t what they seem at night. 62 mindful December 2015 creativity
